How Does a Bed Swing Differ from a Traditional Porch Swing?
Yes, we sell porch swings - it’s in the name of our company, Vintage Porch Swings. But what makes our porch swings different from the others? Simply put, our porch swings are actually bed swings. So, let’s dive into what makes a bed swing different from your traditional porch swing. One of the biggest differentiating factors is the frame of the swing. A traditional porch swing has a hard bottom in it and is around 32 inches deep. A bed swing is designed to accommodate a standard twin bed mattress measuring 75 inches by 39 inches. With the addition of a mattress and possibly other cushions and textiles, a bed swing becomes a more comfortable and relaxing piece of furniture than a hard-backed porch swing. People will fight over who gets to sit in a bed swing, it’s so comfortable! Another differentiating factor is the way that the swing moves. A traditional porch swing is typically hung by two points which create a quick front and back swing motion. Bed swings from Vintage Porch Swings are held by four points rather than two, so they move like a glider. Just the sound of that - glide - evokes feelings of slowing down and enjoying life, like the good ol’ days of sitting on front porch with a glass of iced tea. Swings fit and move in a space of 8 feet by 5 feet. We suggest you have at least 18 inches of space behind the swing and 10 inches on the sides to allow for movement. Our swing fit guide can help you decide if a bed swing will fit your space. Bed swings add whimsy, character, a sense of relaxation and more to your home, creating a sanctuary of sorts.
