In 2008 Brent McHenry’s wife Krista was in serious need of a place to relax. At the time she was the mother of twins, a newborn, and was pregnant with their fourth child. She designed a swing for their front porch and asked Brent to build it. Not long after Krista’s swing was finished, a neighbor stopped by and asked Brent to build one for his front porch too. Soon to follow, Brent’s good friend, Jerry Lepore, encouraged and assisted him in starting a business so everyone could experience and enjoy these fabulous swings. Before long, these bed swings lined the streets of their neighborhood, and soon this simple project became a full-fledged multinational business and Vintage Porch Swings was formed. Many years have passed, and thousands of swings have been crafted and can be found in all fifty states, the island countries, and Canada. Vintage Porch Swings and its team have long outgrown Brent’s garage, but they never lost sight of their goal of handcrafting beautiful and unique porch swings
and helping people create sanctuaries where they can relax, disconnect, and spend time alone or with friends and family. The McHenry’s family has grown and now focus on getting their kids through college and into adulthood. Also since then Jerry Lepore and his wife Phyllis, who took over the business in 2020, have retired to spend more time with their families and grandchildren and Vicki Johnson, an Operations employee since mid-2019, as become the new owner of Vintage Porch Swings with the intent to grow the business and give many more families the opportunity to experience these classic bed porch swings. The VPS family has also grown and now consists of a team of South Carolina craftspeople and artists that continue to build the same quality of bed swing that Brent first built for his wife. Today each bed swing is named after gemstones and precious metals because Vicki, a former jeweler, appreciates the finer, natural things in life, hires only "salt of the Earth" staff, and wants you to continue to know Vintage Porch Swings as a down-to-Earth small business with our customers' bespoke tastes in mind as we grow.
