Chances are, if you’ve done business with Vintage Porch Swings in the last six years, you’ve spoken to me on the phone or met me at the old shop in Johns Island. I’m Vicki, and I just purchased Vintage Porch Swings from the previous owners/founders.
Before moving to back to the area in mid-2017, I led a successful business development career for twenty-seven years, having started in banking before becoming a jeweler. I then went on to work all over the United States and was elated when Vintage Porch Swings found me after I settled down in Charleston. But I’m not so corporate anymore.
I meet a lot of our customers in town or by delivering items on occasion. I’m usually in a T-shirt and jeans with flip-flops these days. My beagle, Darbi, likes to ride along sometimes. When not working, I am in the kitchen cooking from scratch or in the garden, getting dirty as heck. I recently invited my sister from Houston, Texas, to come live with me and we consider ourselves “queenagers” since we rarely slow down. We spend some weekends visiting our family farm in Inman, South Carolina, collecting eggs, feeding the horses, mucking stalls, and helping our brother and his sons with mending a fence or two. We’re into rescuing animals and helping charities. We love to travel, finding the most unusual thrift stores and antiques dealers along the way. Faith, integrity, and empathy are important to me. I could go on and on but I hope you get who I am.
With this said, I only hire down-to-Earth people with exceptional skills. If/when you meet our builders, installers, or delivery people, I can assure you they are humble and proficient. Because I absolutely love gardening, gemstones and most things vintage, I renamed the swings after some of my favorite things. My style may be a new twist, but I want to keep Vintage Porch Swings as authentic as it has been over the last seventeen years as we scale up.
In an effort to lower prices, we moved out of the manufacturing facility in Johns Island and now use private workshops. Our products, including our cushions, are all hand-made locally and we source our lumber and cushion materials from South Carolina and surrounding states. Our new mailing address is just centrally located to all of my suppliers and customers, and the sales tax is lower, so do not fear – we are still the same company, just growing. Our craftspeople are truly the “salt of the Earth” and have many years of experience so they are staying in place!
We will be adding pergolas (available in Charleston, Columbia, Greenville, and up to two hours from Columbia, SC), a new swing design, and some other locally made items soon, so check back often. We now offer free delivery to Charleston and Columbia and lower-than-freight delivery to surrounding communities at $200 plus $0.75 per mile. (If you're in South Carolina or close-by, choose "local" at check-out and we'll call with the delivery estimate.) We have capped the shipping of swings to the lower 48 states at $475 and that includes cushions shipped with the swing. Contact us before placing your order if you are not in the Continental 48 states and we’ll get a quote for you.
We are changing our website and still going through regulatory paperwork, so bear with us this month. I hope to meet more of our customers this year and hope you all continue to trust me to provide the same quality Vintage Porch Swings has produced as the industry leader in all 50 states and several countries!
You have a friend in the bed swing industry, so feel free to contact me any time with any questions.
